I was born in Louisville Kentucky. Always knowing that I was an artist, I studied art at the University of Kentucky in the 1970’s then met my husband Bob Surber and moved to East Tennessee in 1980. I finished my degree in Fine Arts at the University of Tennessee in 1987. In recent years, I have continued taking art classes at Penland School of Art and Arrowmont School of Art.

After college I worked in a local art gallery then began my career as a mural artist and decorative wall finisher. Traveling nationwide, involved in commercial and residential projects. Some of my local commercial projects include Chesapeake’s, Calhoun’s on Bearden Hill as well as the Italian Market and Grill and most recently Foothills Pediatric Dentistry in Maryville and Seymour to name a few.

In 2016, I was commissioned by East Tennessee Children’s Hospital to paint 9 large mixed media paintings for the new addition. In 2017, I was commissioned to paint a large 8 foot by 4 foot mixed media painting of the state of Tennessee, for the lobby of the Hyatt Place hotel on Gay Street in Knoxville. As well as taking other commissions and selling new artwork, a number of my paintings hang in residences and guest cottages at Blackberry Farm in Walland Tennessee.

Currently, I am a full time studio artist, and also the resident restoration artist at the Historic Tennessee Theatre in Knoxville, where I visit monthly to restore the hand painted walls of this majestic landmark.
